Thijsenterprise / Vinyl Artwork

Vinyl design for Thijsenterprise. The aim while creating this vinyl identity was to show and emphasise the energy of his music.

For his album Thijsenterprise mixes jazz, punk, hiphop and African rhythms. The do it yourself mentality is also very important on his album, just as the improvisation.

You can see all these ingredients coming back in the vinyl identity. I did the vinyl identity with a do it yourself mentality. Doing the drawings, the pictures and the concept with my own resources, while improvising and experimenting with drawing and mixing of styles. This is visible on the handcrafted drawings done by a black and red pen. This matches the punk attitude with the handmade strokes. You can see the visual graphic reference of jazz covers from the 50s while showing the silhouette of the artist shaped in the center of the cover, playing with contrast. Hiphop is represented by the icons inside the typography which are coming from the “pro tools¨, which is audio software to create loops. At the same time these icons create a pattern that reminds of African patterns like Tutsi art. All of this ending with an elegant but powerful identity, just like how his music sounds.

Thanks!
